Brian's Vision

Working for all people, our planet, our future.

If we come together for the common good, we can achieve a better world for us all.

2027–2028 Goals: The Hope of a Just Regeneration

Healthcare

Universal Healthcare

Pursue every pathway to universal healthcare — starting with universal primary care covering medical, mental health, and substance use treatment for all Vermonters — while guaranteeing better pay and working conditions for providers.

Recovery

Pathways to Recovery

Expand treatment access and add wraparound services at recovery shelters, recovery residences, low-barrier sanctuaries, supportive housing, and supported housing — especially for DCF youth, people with disabilities, and elders — as community-based alternatives to incarceration and institutionalization.

Community development

Community Self-Sufficiency

Develop community competency in construction, agriculture, healthcare, and conflict resolution so neighbors can meet basic needs together. Invest in tool banks, labor pools, libraries, and mutual aid projects to support local resilience.

Housing

Affordable Housing for All

Build community resilience through public/private partnerships that reimagine land use and redevelop neighborhoods with affordable housing — cooperatives, supported housing, supportive housing, transitional housing, and shelters — driven by genuine public engagement.

Tenant & landlord relations

Housing Justice

Use tax incentives and penalties to encourage affordable rent rates. Incentivize offering right of refusal to tenants. Invest in eviction prevention and other resources that improve relationships and justice in both private and public housing.

Economy

Financial Sovereignty & Affordability

Create a state bank or similar system to manage public and private funds through local institutions in ways that reinvest profits into public assets. Offer low-interest loans to individuals and organizations for private investments in affordable housing and other economic development that promotes the common good.

Democracy

Strengthening Democracy

Expand democratic practices, increase voter access, protect civil liberties, and ensure every Vermonter has a meaningful voice in the decisions that shape their community. Create a state vision for a new way of life through intensive public engagement in the implementation of regional planning.

Workers' Rights

Labor & Immigrant Rights

Continue expanding workers' rights, establish fair wages, improve working conditions, and stand firmly for immigrant rights and dignity.

Tax & Revenue

Fair Taxation & Reinvestment

Implement an income tax surcharge or similar mechanism to redirect revenue from federal tax cuts for the highest earners into state investments in healthcare, recovery, housing, food access, and education. Use second home tax or similar approach to reduce property taxes.

Education

Education & Universal Childcare

Integrate universal childcare into a sustainably funded, comprehensive public education system that invests in every person at every stage of life.

Environment

Environmental Justice

Protect Vermont's natural resources while centering impacted communities in environmental policy — because environmental justice and human health are inseparable.

Technology

Responsible AI & Technology

Build on Vermont's record of first-in-nation AI legislation to maximize the benefits and minimize the risks as artificial intelligence and neurotechnologies rapidly advance. No data centers until the state establishes guidelines to promote responsible and ethical use.

What are your priorities for the next two years and beyond?

Your voice shapes the work ahead.
